Training Methodologies
People often ask what methodologies I use for training, which is a great
question. I don't use one style of teaching/training. While there are "camps"
of individuals that use only one style of teaching, I believe each dog is
different and should be trained using a method that is most effective for
their "learning style". To teach a dog something you need to break down the
behavior into small parts, teach them and then work on adding them together.
Like building a house, piece by piece makes the big picture. To eliminate a
behavior or to modify it, you need to identify the behavior, correct, show the
dog what the acceptable behavior is and then praise. Often when training one
of these components are left out of the training process which is why some
individuals find it difficult to work with their dog. I use positive training
methods, traditional training methods and physical manipulation if needed.
When the proper technique for that dog is used in training, you can teach a
dog just about anything!
